2017 Season – Week #15

Cougar XC Athletes & Parents –

We are looking forward to racing at Portland Meadows this Saturday and optimistic that we will be seeing some fast times!  Make sure you aren’t on your feet too much this evening at the MV/Summit Football game (Go COUGS!) and in bed at a reasonable time.  We will see you very early tomorrow morning (5:15).

Here are this week’s announcements:

Oxford Classic –

This week we will be racing in Drake Park at the Oxford Classic.  Athletes are excused from class at 12:30 and we will be meeting at the XC Tree to carpool to Drake Park.  We may need a few parents to help with carpooling.  Let me know if you’re available.  Race times are as follows:

Girls Varsity – 2 pm

Boys Varsity – 2:30 pm

Girls JV – 3:00 pm

Boys JV – 3:30 pm

For race information go to the meet page at https://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Results/Meet.aspx?Meet=129443#/263

All Seasons Flapjack Give-Back –

We need a small group of volunteers to help out at this fundraiser on Saturday, October 7th.  If you can’t attend Bigfoot on Sunday (because of Church or another conflict), this would be a great opportunity to pull your weight 😊.  Volunteers will be making pancakes for customers from 8:30 to about 11 and All Seasons will donate $500 to our team plus any tips received during the event.  This will be at the location on Jamison Street.  If you can volunteer, please let me know!

Green Lakes Trail Run –

We will be taking a small group of athletes to run Green Lakes Trail on Saturday, October 7th.  In order to attend you must be injury free in the last 2 weeks and have competed in a varsity race this season.  This is due to group size restrictions for this trail and the length and intensity of this trail.  It is open to the first 10 athletes meeting this criteria who respond.

Bigfoot Run –

We will be helping out at the Bigfoot Run next Sunday, October 8th with all proceeds of the event going to local cross country programs based on the number of participants volunteering from each school.  We need all athletes that are able to attend this fundraiser!  Please bring parents, friends, and family members to contribute to our overall volunteer count and wear your Mountain View Gear! We will be providing direction and cheering for runners on the course.  Meet at the Les Schwab Ampitheater at 8 am and we should be done within no more than a few hours.

Pasta Feed –

Our pre-Oxford pasta feed will be at the Goff House which is at 20745 Kilbourne Loop.  We will carpool there after practice.  Please bring the following items to share with the team:

Freshmen – Drinks

Sophomores – Desert

Juniors – Bread

Seniors – Salad

Team Gear –

We’ve got a few extra team sweatshirts from our order this season as well as some men’s and women’s brook half-zip pullovers (these are super nice and would be over $100 retail) that we are looking to liquidate so we can use those funds to help with an order for new team jackets for the 2018 season.  These are $30 for athletes or parents interested in buying one.  Please email me if you’d like to confirm a size.  Payment can be made on Touchbase and you can send me an invoice with the receipt and I will bring the item to practice.

Practice Schedule – Meet in Bohnlein’s Classroom at 3 pm all week.

Monday – Mile Repeats at Pine Nursery (Only 3 – but fast!)

We have a fun weekend ahead of us at Washington Family Ranch but I wanted to get the weekly email out today since I won’t have an opportunity this weekend.  Here are announcements for the week:

Oregon City XC Invite –

This week we will be attending the Oregon City XC Invite.  We will meet at 6:45 AM in the MVHS Bus Loop and return around 8:00 PM.  Bring a sack lunch and money for dinner.  Assuming good weather and clear air, we are planning to stop for a trail run at Silver Falls State Park on the way home from the race.  For meet information go to the meet page at https://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Results/Meet.aspx?Meet=128358#/263

Bigfoot Run –

The Bigfoot Run has been cancelled for this weekend and rescheduled for Sunday, October 8th due to smoke.  Since we were going to be at Washington Family Ranch this is a good thing for our team!  Bigfoot is a long time fundraiser for local high school cross country teams giving 100% of the proceeds to the local programs and this will give us an opportunity to be involved.  Please plan to help out at this race that morning!  If you are a parent, please consider signing up to participate and make sure to mark Mountain View on your entry form so we can a larger percentage of the proceeds!  To signup go to Footzone or register online at http://centraloregonrunningklub.org/cork-events/bigfoot-races/

District Course/Work Party –

Bend High School is hosting the District meet and has changed the location from Wanoga Sno Park to COCC.  The community is building a new cross country course on the COCC campus and they are hosting a work party for Summit, Bend and MV teams to come help build the trail on Tuesday at 5:30 pm.  Parents and athletes are welcome to attend (This is not required).  Please bring your own rake and/or shovel if possible.  Athletes will need a signed waiver to participate (See weekly email or contact Mike for waiver)

Practice Schedule –

All practices are now from 3-5 PM at Mountain View unless otherwise noted.  We will begin meeting in Room D-8 (Bohnlein’s Room) starting on Monday so athletes can leave valuables in a secure space.  This schedule is tentative and assumes clear air conditions.  If smoke persists next week we may drive off-campus for some practices or continue to practice indoors.
