2017 Season – Week #12

Hey Cougar XC Athletes & Parents –

We have a fun weekend ahead of us at Washington Family Ranch but I wanted to get the weekly email out today since I won’t have an opportunity this weekend.  Here are announcements for the week:

Oregon City XC Invite –

This week we will be attending the Oregon City XC Invite.  We will meet at 6:45 AM in the MVHS Bus Loop and return around 8:00 PM.  Bring a sack lunch and money for dinner.  Assuming good weather and clear air, we are planning to stop for a trail run at Silver Falls State Park on the way home from the race.  For meet information go to the meet page at https://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Results/Meet.aspx?Meet=128358#/263

Bigfoot Run –

The Bigfoot Run has been cancelled for this weekend and rescheduled for Sunday, October 8th due to smoke.  Since we were going to be at Washington Family Ranch this is a good thing for our team!  Bigfoot is a long time fundraiser for local high school cross country teams giving 100% of the proceeds to the local programs and this will give us an opportunity to be involved.  Please plan to help out at this race that morning!  If you are a parent, please consider signing up to participate and make sure to mark Mountain View on your entry form so we can a larger percentage of the proceeds!  To signup go to Footzone or register online at http://centraloregonrunningklub.org/cork-events/bigfoot-races/

District Course/Work Party –

Bend High School is hosting the District meet and has changed the location from Wanoga Sno Park to COCC.  The community is building a new cross country course on the COCC campus and they are hosting a work party for Summit, Bend and MV teams to come help build the trail on Tuesday at 5:30 pm.  Parents and athletes are welcome to attend (This is not required).  Please bring your own rake and/or shovel if possible.  Athletes will need a signed waiver to participate (See weekly email or contact Mike for waiver)

Practice Schedule –

All practices are now from 3-5 PM at Mountain View unless otherwise noted.  We will begin meeting in Room D-8 (Bohnlein’s Room) starting on Monday so athletes can leave valuables in a secure space.  This schedule is tentative and assumes clear air conditions.  If smoke persists next week we may drive off-campus for some practices or continue to practice indoors.

Monday – Run to Juniper Park for Michigan Workout

Tuesday – Canal to 1st Street Rapids, 8th Street, or Beaver Coaches Loop.  COCC work party after practice

Wednesday – Pilot Butte Base Trail w/Summit Option

2017 Season – Week #9

Hey Team,

Great job this week at practice!  We are picking up the intensity and mileage and you are handling it great.  We especially appreciate the hard effort many of you put into the workouts on Wednesday and Friday!  This Saturday will be our first race at Breese Ranch, but we will be training through it so don’t worry if you aren’t feeling ready or are tired after the last couple weeks.  Our focus is on the end of the season.  Here are some important announcements for the week!

Breese Ranch

Our first race is this Saturday at Breese Ranch in Prineville.  Please meet at the Mountain View bus loop at 7:30 AM to catch the bus.  I expect we will be back at Mountain View for pickup at 12:30 PM.  The girls race is at 9:00 AM and the boys are at 9:40.  There is a community race at 10:00 for any parents interested in participating.  The course starts on a pasture and at 1/4 mile crosses a large creek and follows a dirt road to a flood irrigated pasture for some wet running. At the 3/4 miles the course starts a 3/4 mile up hill grind on a cattle trail to the halfway point of the race. From this point on it is downhill to the same wet pasture, stream crossing and follows a dirt road to the finish.  Parents interested in watching or participating in the community race can drive there by traveling through Prineville and proceeding 1 mile east of town on US 26.  There will be signs on the right side of the road for Breese Ranch.

Pasta Feed –

We have a team pasta feed Friday evening right after practice at Mallory Roberts House at 62610 Bunchgrass Pl.  We will carpool athletes that can’t drive from Drake Park to save parents some trouble.  The Roberts will be providing pasta but please bring the following:

Freshmen – Bread

Sophomore – Drinks

Juniors – Salad

Seniors – Desert

250 Mile Club!

Megan wanted to send a quick reminder about the training logs & “250 mile club.”  She made training logs for the team and passed them out at practice at the beginning of the summer.  The logs have a few purposes including to help athletes learn about training by recording their runs throughout the summer and season as well as to provide motivation by recording progress and accomplishments.

To provide extra incentive to train over the summer, any athlete that logs 250 miles or more throughout the summer will get a “250 mile club” t-shirt.  When totaling miles, athletes can include any miles run after the first day of summer practice.  If you did not get a training log, please contact Mike or Megan at practice, we have plenty of extras.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
